Spring has Sprung

Listening to: birds birds BIRDS

Wow, I love this time of year! The temps today got up close to 80; I took out a couple of storm windows and let in some fresh air. Mmmm... maybe I'll sleep better tonight.

Last Friday I took off work in the afternoon and drove out to Springfield to see my big girliebob and her boyfriend. We had a really great time - ate at Hickok's (had some really good local brew), then walked up the street to Ernie Biggs, a duelling piano bar for fantastic music. An older fella (eek, probably my age) who was already 3 sheets to the wind tried to pick us up, which was really funny since he could barely stay in his chair. We got a big kick out of watching him try to get money out of the ATM. Saturday evening we had Mexican then saw 300. They are moving into a bigger house on the edge of town this weekend, so Sunday we drove out to see the place. The landlady was there doing lots of fixup/cleanup work. It'll be so much nicer... plenty of room inside and 3 acres mostly in the back of the house. And Jacob is really tickled about the 3-bay detached garage - he was singing 'workshop' while Anna sang 'garden'!

I finished the Trekking socks and gave them to Anna (forgot to take pictures first!). She liked the colors. Yay! I also blocked the Swallowtail shawl and plan on giving it to an instructor - not one of mine, she just has a class in my lab and stops by to chat on the way through. She's been a fibery person too, and it's nice to have someone who is on the same political plane as me. And I'm on the gusset of Daniel's sock #1.

Of course, no trip to Springfield is complete without hitting the yarn shop. I bought a book about knitting with silk (I'll hunt it up for the title later) and enough Plymouth Boku to make the circle vest in the book. I also came away with enough Regia Silk for Clessidra in the new knitty. Oh, and a skein of Tofutsie sock yarn... I've read some folks are concerned there might be a fishy smell since it's made partly of chitin. Maybe it'll just smell like the ocean, which isn't a bad thing.

Well, we're getting ready to head out to dinner and take Daniel and the husband to see 300 - Daniel was pretty grumpy about me getting to see it first, but oh well! I don't mind watching it twice.
