(love the Ray Charles version of this song... mercy!)
Listening to: Al Di Meola The Collection
Di Meola is an incredibly talented guitarist... seriously, my mouth waters when I listen to his music. Most of this CD is mellow - perfect for work.
Spring semester is over, FINALLY. I ended up with Bs in both classes, so I'm happy. The finals on both were tough, but especially Sys. Analysis & Design. My grade was an A before going in, and (bad me) I'd figured out that I could make 40% on the final and still come out with a B. That's a horrible way to approach a test, but I was having serious problems recalling information. Of course, now I could blabber on about structure charts and ERDs and the like, no problem.
Work is interesting lately. The "new" boss (new last August) has decided to take a different position in the College of Ed, and that would entail giving up the Center. So for the past month, there's been a different possible replacement at least once a week, sometimes it would change back and forth daily. Yesterday morning the Dean came down to my office to let me know she had made a decision. When I'd heard the rumor about who it could be, I was a little put off but the new new supervisor will work out fine. The change will take place in August.
This week I started going with two other secretaries to exercise after we're done with work. The university has two recreation centers and each has its own advantages. South is smaller, but less busy, and fewer students. North is open and big, offers classes, has more equipment, but always seems to be a little more crowded. We're varying the 'where' and the 'what' so we don't get bored - walking round and round a track gets old after a while. Today we are going to North, and a guy is going to show us how to use the free weights for body sculpting/toning. I should have a goal, shouldn't I? Hmm... I'll have to think about that. Seems like it should be something measureable, not necessarily in inches (though that's not a bad idea), but more than a general "I want to get in shape." I suppose a goal of an A1C of 6.5 by August is a good one, and not unattainable. I'd like to drop 15 pounds by the end of summer. So there's two...
The Finished Projects list will be updated - I'm considering the red shawl complete even though it needs to be blocked. The Jitterbug Jewels socks were finished Wednesday evening, and a new pair of socks in Opal Prima (the strawberry pink shade) has been started. One of Daniel's socks is complete and the second is nearly to the heel. This last weekend during a trip to St. Louis I picked up some King Tut cotton yarn in navy for a tank, but I'm still mulling over the patterns. Before going to the city I sewed up the green/brown paisley skirt, and I love it! Last night I cut out a tonal navy tropical (island/ palm trees), same pattern. And finally, in digging around a few days ago, I came across a baby cardigan partially finished. I could tell the guage was way off - when I started it, I didn't care if it fit a preemie or a 12 month old. So it got ripped and restarted. The body and one sleeve are complete, and I only have about 6 rows on the second sleeve. It's my early morning project... Ron leaves the house around 5:20, and I usually wake up with him now. That gives me some quiet, cool time to knit in bed while I watch the sun rise, listen to the windchimes, and check out the hummingbirds fighting over the feeder.
Last but not least... Daniel got a job Wednesday at the Pizza Hut close to my office. He'll be able to ride in with me until he can get his license. I think I'm more excited about this than he is, but the experience will be good for him even if he doesn't stay there for long. At least he won't be on the computer all day!
