Feathered Weekend

What a great weekend! It was pretty laid back and relaxed all around.

Friday evening: Ron had a roast with potatoes and onions in the crock pot. I'm SOOOooo lucky :)

Saturday: The menfolk fixed fence in the bottoms and turned the cows down there. I bought Daniel's graduation gift to give early - a digital camera. The idea of early was so he could take pics at the senior prom Saturday night. The boy looked mighty handsome in his tux.

Ron and I ate at Buckners, then hit the bookstore for a while.

Here's the feathered part.... on the drive home from buying the camera, coming down our gravel road, birds of primary colors swooped across in front. Two bluebirds and an indigo bunting, a pair of goldfinches, and a pair of cardinals. Red-yellow-blue.

Sunday: Ron and I went down to the bottoms on the 4wheeler, checking fences and looking at the flood damage. I don't know how some of the neighbor's fields are going to be workable. There are cornstalks 3 or 4 foot deep in places!

As we drove along the edge of one of his fields, we saw a group of 12 Canadian geese in a low spot. There was also a huge white bird, sort of heron like. We got fairly close before it took off for another low spot, but the wingspan had to be 6 feet! It was amazing, and absolutely beautiful bird. I looked it up today and I've identified it as a great egret. We also spied a pilleated woodpecker flitting along the fence line, searching each tree stump for a buggy meal.

Knitting... worked on the Jaywalker socks and finished knitting a cotton baby bib from Mason-Dixon Knitting book. Cast on a second one.

That's it for the evening. I have a movie to watch!
