This last weekend was just wonderful. Ron and Daniel drove up here on Friday, and we went out for dinner. They stayed overnight, and early Saturday morning we drove down to Springfield. The weather was perfect and sunny, and all along the interstate wild daisies covered the banks. The locust trees are in full bloom, and the scent of their danglie white flower clusters was so sweet and heavy that we could smell them in the car.
We took the whole fambly out to brunch, then headed to the Habitat house that Anna's class designed and built. It's extremely energy efficient and has a LEED certification. Everything used in the building is either recycled or recycleable. Even the plantings are native species - the roots go deep and they are more likely to succeed during drought or overly wet weather. Pics to follow - my camera batteries went poot so I am depending on others to send some snaps to me! ;)
Next was the graduation ceremony. Very crowded and long, and the gymnasium was stuffy and hot, but who cares! The main speaker was Senator George McGovern, and he had some things to say about feeding the world's hungry (including right here at home) and encouraged the students to find ways to better the world. After the main ceremony, the architecture students participated in a smaller ceremony in the arch. building, with all of their professors. There was a nice little reception after, and we took pictures. I have GOT to figure out how to kill the date stamp on the camera...
My parents and Ron's mom and sis headed for home but my brothers stuck around. We all went to Hickok's for dinner before they left - YUMM!
My parents and Ron's mom and sis headed for home but my brothers stuck around. We all went to Hickok's for dinner before they left - YUMM! Ron, Daniel and I stayed over Saturday night, and Jacob cooked the most fantastic breakfast for us. We goofed around a bit - went to a book store and of course Anna had to hit Andy's for some frozen custard.
This week will be a short one. Daniel graduates Thursday evening, so I'll be heading down that way right after work. It would be silly to drive all the way back up here for one day, so Friday is a personal day, and then with Monday Memorial Day, I'm going to be home for several days. Yes!! There are some things I'd like to take care of at home - cleaning up the back deck and putting plants and seeds in the planters, and sticking a few seeds in the garden too. Friday I hope to take Daniel to get his drivers license, and plan to do lunch or dinner with the girls from the university.
After work today I purchased a set of two wrought iron chairs for my deck. They have a spring-type seat, so it's almost like a rocker. They are very pretty, almost delicate, with floral designs worked into the armrests and along the top of the back. Now I have someplace to sit and knit, or have my coffee in the mornings.
Time for some shuteye...
