What a gorgeous day... cool and sunny with a light breeze. I had lunch and a quick knit on the deck, and plan to head back out there after I'm finished with work. The rose is from the front of the house (at home) taken this weekend. The first couple of blossoms on this rose are always immense, and the stems are close to 6 foot. Not sure what kind it is, but it looks like a Peace rose, and very sweet-smelling.
The weekend was pretty good. Friday evening, Ron and I packed up a quickie picnic (marshmallows, hotdogs/buns, beers, chips) and took the 4-wheeler down to the bottoms. He's got several stumps burning, and one of them had some great coals for roastietoasting. It was pretty cool, and we were happy to sit in the line of smoke (smoke follows beauty, right?) to keep the mosquitoes at bay. Mercy, those things were so huge, it would have only taken a handful to suck us to bloodless shells! On the way back up I smacked 3 of them at once on Ron's arm, and they were swarming around my ankles!
Daniel drove me into town on Saturday, and we hit the bookstore, Best Buy, and for lunch stopped at McAllister's. Once home, I knitted, worked on laundry, and did some reading. The knitting is complete for the February Ladies Sweater, ends worked in... it just needs blocking and buttons! Sunday afternoon was spent on the picnic table in the sun, knitting a bit more - I finished one sock and started another. As I was working on it, I kept looking at the garden... we were certainly growing a lovely crop of maple trees! It's been so wet that Ron hadn't had a chance to cultivate. The combination of wind and sun dried it enough for me to get in and hoe around the onions, green beans, and beets. We've got corn, potatoes and okra coming up as well, and they're looking pretty good despite the little maple trees.
I also pilfered through old boxes of sewing stuff over the weekend and came across an apron already cut out. It had been for my grandma, who is gone now, and I'd never finished it. So that was yesterday's lunch project... a 1940s style bib type apron, edged with bias. It's really quite cute, and I'm sure I'll be using it. There may be more made from the pattern, but the directions suck so I've made a few notes.
