Ok, so it spit rain the whole time, but I had a great time! Saturday morning I whipped up two little SummerLin dresses using yarn and fabric already in the stash. These went to Ron's twin nieces who had their 1st birthday party on Sunday. They also got cotton knitted bibs, two each, and a little stuffed toy each.
Mid-afternoon Saturday I left with Mom and sis Patty for an adventure. We stopped first at Lamberts in Sikeston where we ate way too much. Then on to Mountain Grove for an overnight in the little motel. Next morning we had an excellent breakfast at a little local diner called The Wagon Wheel. Yum yum. I love trying out little places like that instead of the cookie cutter chain restaurants. Our next stop was Baker Creek Seeds for their spring festival.
Wow... what an great place, but it would have been far better in dry weather! We had fun anyway, mucking around in the mud, buying plants, listening to wonderful music, browsing the little shops and vendors. We stopped off in the barn to hear a speaker who is doing a study on different varieties of beans, corn, etc that are saved from year to year in mountain communities like the Appalachians and the Arkansas Ozarks. Not only does he collect the seeds (and grows them), he collects family histories connected with the seeds/food... how are these beans prepared? where did the seed originate? etc... very interesting! I purchased only two plants - a black bunching tomato called Nyagous, and a paparika pepper.
I also bought a bar of handmade patchouli soap, a nice bird-beak paring knife, and a fantastic mug. We had a wonderful time, a great visit, and some teeth-grinding moments when Patty tried to drive out of the field when we left. What a muddy squishy mess! but yay for all-wheel drive! Our late lunch/early supper was at Hillbilly Junction in Willow Springs... tasty burgers and dessert coupled with a good waiter who took really good care of us...
