Weekend Update

I forgot to write about last weekend! No matter, it was another great one with the family. I had a chance to get into the garden and weed, pick green beans, and look around at what was coming on. We had enough beans for a mess Sunday night (with leftovers for Ron for a few nights' dinners), a couple of quarts for MIL Betty, and a pretty good bag full for my parents.
Rebecca and Hannah were over at Mom's on Sunday, and we all had a nice visit. I talked Mom into giving me a quickie haircut the way she used to: combed straight, a piece of masking tape across the back to mark the cutting line, then snip snip snip. It's nothing fancy, but got rid of the split and broken ends. I tried taking a picture, but the best I could get had a 'hair ornament' in it... silly bird!

So... what else is new? As of Friday, the Moonstone Cardigan is complete except buttons. Gold would be the natural choice for the olive green, but I don't wear gold. So I'm thinking horn or dyed bone, or maybe copper/brass. Not sure - I'll have to see what is available. The yarn was perfect for the design. I have 3 full hanks left... not sure if I want to return them for something else, or hand onto them. They'd make a wonderful scarf/mitten or hat set.

This weekend I worked on the pink malabrigo lace shawl and a sock, but didn't get very far along on either. Friday night Ron and I met my sis and her date down at Bel Air to listen to my brother Joe's band. The weather was incredibly hot all day with heat advisories (heat index of 105+), but once the sun went down there was a decent breeze. Good thing since they played outside.

Saturday I did a little shopping, knitting, reading in the early afternoon, then Ron and I went to a wedding reception. We didn't stay too late, but it was a long day anyway.

And Sunday, after a very nice long nap, I headed out into the garden. Daniel and I picked a good 4 gallons of green beans. Some were cooked for supper to go with a grilled-in-parchment pork tenderloin (loaded with garlic slivers and rosemary), the rest went to Betty who offered to can them for us. Yay! There were also enough okra for a mess of fried for Ron, and several sweet yellow banana peppers and a dozen or so grape tomatoes. Yum yum! I also spied some zucchini that will be picking size next week, as well as some teensie butternut squash, pumpkin, watermelon, and cantaloupe set on. The first planting of sweet corn has little ears made, and a raccoon has already pulled down 2 stalks and ripped them up. So I sprinkled chili powder on the silks. Hopefully the coons will try one and decide it's NOT something they want to eat. Oh, and Ron and I shared a handful of delicious blackberries too! Not enough to do anything with, but tasty just popped in the mouth.
