Way Down Yonder in the Paw Paw Patch...

This weekend was so beautiful with a slight chill and a breeze, but the sun was warm. Especially when laying in the middle of the hayfield. I rode down with Ron on the tractor Saturday afternoon, sat in the sun and knitted for a while, watched the wildlife (turkeys, deer, squirrels), and walked around in the woods taking pictures. I've always thought the flowers of the paw paw trees were oddly wicked-looking, veiny and deep blood red. Perfect flower for a vampire. Paw paws grow wild in this area, more of an underbrush tree. They do produce fruit - a odd pear-shaped thing with a banana flavor. We rarely get to taste them because the deer usually get them as soon as they are ripe. Mayapples are another spring flower, and they too produce a fruit with a banana pudding flavor. Again, not something we eat, but it's always interesting to know what is edible in the wild...

I have been working on several projects, and starting to feel like I'm spread a bit too thin. So I'm focusing on one project at a time, sort of. The Lustra cardigan is when I'm working from home. It's (mostly) mindless stockinette stitch once I'm past the ribbing. The last sleeve is on the needles. For the ride on Metrolink, a little summer dress for one of the twins out of Sandnesgarn cotton fingering yarn. It's lacy, knit in the round, and once I was properly cast on (410 stitches, three times because I kept getting a twist!!) it's been a breeze. There is always a pair of socks going... the Jitterbug Honolulu colorway socks are finished, using a basic pattern. Now I've moved to a blue Trekking XXL in a simple lace design.

More later :)
