Things of Beauty

 Finished

Shawl from a kit subscription drop shipped from Sheep to Shawl. This is the first kit - the medium size. However, I have a full ball of yarn left, enough to make another shawl the same size. The yarn is hand dyed by Donna Druchunas, and she includes a stitch marker, an illustrated 'comic' of a Lithuanian folk tale, and a little gift. In this one she added a sweet Baltic amber necklace in multiple colors. I have completed the project from the second kit, but it needs to have ends woven in and steamed first.

Other Project on the Table

Grandma's quilt - taken out of the stand frame. The weight of the quilt caused it to fall over, and the angle was just unwieldy working on it. It's now in a 14" round frame, and I can sit on the sofa or the living room floor and the weight is much easier to work with. For now it is in semi-hold while I work on Christmas
Oraefi - Sweet pullover from a Lopi book. Kate from knit group has made a couple. Little Knits had a good selection of LettLopi on sale, so I picked up garnet with ivory for the colorwork.
Dameting - a knit dress from tweedy brown yarn that works up fingering/sport. It has simple lines, and I plan for it to be a wardrobe basic to use scarves, shawls, and cardigans.

New Arrival

This came in the mail today. A gorgeous weighty fountain pen with my name engraved in silver. I also received a shiny red pen, but try as I might, I could not get ink to flow. A call to Colorado Pen's excellent customer service, and a new one is on the way. Yay! Looking forward to it, because it is a fine nib (the blue pen is medium). I have not figured out how to rotate photos in blogger - I am sure I used to be able to do that!

Sadness

My uncle passed away earlier this week. He is the husband of my mother's sister. Uncle Don has been ill for quite a while with lung cancer, though it had gone into remission at one time. But it did come back, and Mom told me his liver and kidneys had started shutting down last week. He went into hospice - not sure if it was in-home or in a palliative care home.

The funeral is Tuesday. I am able to take a bereavement day to attend, and Patty will be riding along with me. Not sure about Anna, but will find out this weekend for sure. It will be nice to see extended family again, even though the circumstances are sad.

House Progress

The HVAC is supposed to be installed sometime next week, but the guy was supposed to call me first. He told Ron that he planned to put a heater vent in front of the front door, which sorry, is just stupid. First, it would end up being a mudcatcher and I'd be forever having to remove the frame and vac it out. Second, we plan to put an entrance rug in front of the door. Don't most people?? The vent would be closed and the rug on top of it, so save their time and our money and don't.put.it.there.

Ron bought stove pipe so he can install one of the wood stoves. This will give he and Daniel some heat while they are working on electrical, plumbing and insulation this winter.

'Nuff of this. Time to get back to work!
