Losing My Marbles (or wheels)

Yup, there went another wheel (see previous post). Working to get some ‘repair’ done! Things regarding Carolyn’s passing are beginning to smooth out a bit. I still occasionally think about asking for her input but catch myself and pull on my big girl panties. Mistakes have been made but I am learning. It’s not the end of the world.

And then Dad got sick. He’s been battling an ulcer on a toe for quite some time, going to a foot doc at the Wound Care Center. Then he started feeling bad, ended up in the hospital for quite some time with a strep infection in his blood, suspected it got in his system through the foot wound. (Lesson: Never let those go too long without care!!!!) The swelling caused him to lose his vision, and too long laying around in the hospital bed he lost muscle mass. Now he is in skilled nursing, getting physical therapy and continued antibiotics. Still very little vision - movement, outlines, shadow, and sometimes he can make out the color red. Long way to go, but gradually improving.

It’s Mom that has me worried more. Her memory is really failing, she stumbles around, and requires someone at the house 24/7. My nephew had been living with them prior to all this happening, and we are paying him to help her out. Thank God he is there and willing, and didn’t have another job at the moment. He does her laundry, makes sure she has meals, takes her in to see Dad, and does grocery shopping.

Other Happenings

I am working on a mystery project. It’s from canuckquilter.com, called Two-Colour Mystery. We’re up to week 3 and so far I am keeping up to date. These are the fabrics I am using:

Next is a Shortest Day Shawl kit from Wisconsin Sheep and Wool last year. The colors are wild and random, 10 rows each. It is knit in the round, then cut between two slipped stitches, raveled out, then tied by color for chunky fringe. The color in my kit are different than the picture in Ravelry (and the kit pic) but I still like them. Added a few of my own yarns so I could make the larger size.
