In the Summertime…

 This and that

We’ve had plenty of heat and lots of rain. And more rain. Sunday we had a late Fourth of July celebration at Anna and Dwayne’s. He smoked a brisket, and we had all the fixings - scalloped potatoes, baked beans, slaw, corn casserole, deviled eggs, and plenty of desserts. We spent some time in their saltwater pool, until a heavy storm rolled through. It moved quickly, and we started up fireworks. But the skeeters were in full attack mode, even with heavy coatings of Off! I drove back to StL early Monday for an MRI at 8 downtown. It was a long day.

The week before, I ended up on the parking garage top floor of the casino - you could see fireworks from all the little municipalities along with the big one at Riverfest. Without the traffic and drunken crowds. Win-win.

Yesterday I sorted through clothes, tucked away sweaters (finally) and set aside a pile for donation.

Projects

I have a finish! A baby quilt almost entirely from a bag of print scraps given to me. I added solids from The Stash. The outer border and back fabric is the only purchase. Even the batting is Frankensteined together from large cutoffs. Machine quilted on my old Pfaff and a hand stitched binding. It already has a plan to be gifted to a new Grandma.

I am nearly finished with the first sleeve of U for Me top, using the short sleeved view. It was about half done, but a couple of mistakes just wouldn’t do, so pulled it out to the yoke division. I am much happier with it!

Also, have picked up the third Barn Raising Afghan. I’m about half through the stack, adding the crochet edge. This throw is bordered with forest green. The first was red, and is at the foot of my bed for naps, the second has black borders. It’s very satisfying to sort through the stack of squares and admire how the color patterning works out in each one.

There has been a sock on hold for a while -  knit in Kroy Sock, so slightly heavier - was ending up just a little too big for my liking. It was all the way to the heel, but I just couldn’t keep going knowing it would fit sloppy. So, rip rip rip and start again, and it’s going quickly. I keep it by the bed and work on it before snoozing, sometimes listening to a podcast, sometimes music, and sometimes just quiet while winding down.

Tomorrow is an eye appointment after work. I have been needing a new prescription for a while, and left my best blingy pair at Anna’s, so a good reason for a checkup.

All for now. Blessings for the week!
