This and that
The last few days have been a welcome change in the weather. Thursday evening I turned off the A/C and haven’t switched it on since. Sleeping with the windows open is just wonderful, and so much quieter. I love waking up snuggled in with temps in the low 60s. Today we are shooting for a high of 80, with decent humidity levels.
Wednesday I baked a batch of brownies for knit group. Tried the Aldi brand mix for the first time, and they turned out well. Added a handful of square dark chocolate morsels. Just perfect. Thankfully not many came home to tempt me! Next time I’ll try some nuts in them.
I work tomorrow, doing some training. The hours are odd, but that’s ok. The next two weeks my schedule is weird, mostly because the regular HR person was on vacation. Some days I am working until 4 or 6, not coming in until noon. And some mornings coming in at 5 am? Not sure why, but whatever. I put in another application for admin assistant, but it hasn’t been enough time to hear back. Hoping! As soon as work is done, I am heading down to the farm, just a quickie. Tuesday morning is a meeting with the lawyer and paralegal about Mom’s estate.
Projects
I have a couple of finished projects to talk about. First is a baby dress. Right off, I can’t remember the pattern name. But it is knit in a very soft bamboo cotton acrylic blend from Hobby Lobby. It is for the same grandma as the quilt at knit group, so I had better get in gear and gift it soon. Need a gift bag.
Next is my third Barn Raising. The edging was finished yesterday and a good steaming applied. It turned out really pretty. I think this, the last one (edged in navy), and Northeasterly will be gifted for Christmas. They are perfect size for a quick nap.
There are a couple of duplicates, but not together, so I am fine with it. Must have been from two pairs of socks!
I wore the U for Me tee for a few hours, and decided that the neck was stretching out more than I like, so will need to run a row of slip stitch or single crochet around the inside of the neck band. Other than that, I love the fit and drape.
Now on the needles:
Flax DK - about 3/4 through the yoke. Wound the second hank today, but it will be a while before I need it. The stitches are working out nice and even, and gauge is spot on. Think I will make the yoke a bit larger, but will check it once I get that far.
Beryl Blanket - this is the next sock yarn scrap thing. I started it a couple of years ago, and have picked it up off and on. It’s a little tedious, but uses up really small bits. I added two motifs last night. Very slow going, but I would like to get it out of the lineup.
Nymphalidea Shawl - this is another UFO. The yarn is a matched hand dyed set from Handmaiden and Fleece Artist. One is Angel Hair, 70% kid mohair/30% nylon. The second is Merino Slim, 100% super wash merino. The bundle is called Halo. Colors are dark blues and turquoise. This yarn was purchased at Wisconsin Sheep and Wool maybe two years ago from a booth that was going out of business and marked everything half price.
Redwood Tote - I bought the pattern and fabrics (again) two years ago on the Wisconsin trip from a little quilt shop we stopped at. Outer fabric is navy with a tiger print, and matching rust cotton for the lining. Earlier this year I ordered the hardware for it, and had planned to cut out and start today, but realized all pieces need woven fusible interfacing, over 2 yards, and I don’t have quite that much. So it’s now on order from WAWAK. They carry 44 inch wide, and it’s much more economical. So that project is on hold for a few days.
Of course, there is always a pair of socks in the works. Currently it’s a plain vanilla pair from a striped Kroy, one sock finished, ribbing of #2 done.
