Yum yum, what a voice!
Christmas at Mom's
Mom had the whole gang over, down and up on the 11th for our annual after Christmas Christmas celebration. She made ham and all the fixings, I baked rolls and made sweet taters (NO marshmallows!!!). There was corn and cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and so many desserts it's a wonder we were able to push away from the table. Maybe some of us rolled...
Anna was able to make it over, but her Jacob had to work. She had houseplans for us to look over, and we did some changing and adding, plus working through some questions she had. And of course creating even more questions that we'll have to delve in to later.
Knitting Front
Ok, knitting the back too. I finally made a scarf for myself! Just a simple feather & fan out of a teal blue wool. And a plain pair of mittens to fit over very thin cheap gloves. The mittens are Noro Kureyon in a blue/green/purple mix, and are so warm! Had to drop down to a children's size and smaller needles since my hands are small, but they turned out great. I also knitted a beret from the Kureyon, but it needs help. I guess I'm just not a beret person - just can't get it to look carefree and slouchy enough.
Last night was knitting group. I took the brown shawl along to work on the border, but just could not get my head working. I enjoy the group, but there is one woman who (though sweet as can be) just can not shut up. She butts in mid-sentence, and goes off on long boring tangents, drops names and places and events enough to make sure you know she is well-to-do and special, and basically drones on until she maybe can't remember what the heck she was talking about. Like that would stop her. (sorry, there I went on my OWN tangent) Anyway, the droning doesn't make for chart concentration. There's just too many rows and the border is too wide.
So instead I bought a skein of sock yarn (Trekking XXL, color 189) and some dps and started on a basic pair of socks with a bit of a twist. 2X2 rib at the top changing to a mock cable for the leg. The colors are loverly, sort of a rustic pastel variegated. Much better for no-brainer knitting...
Cleveland
Friday Daniel and I made our yearly trek to Cleveland for the sci-fi movie marathon at Case Western Reserve University. We got there late, having missed our first flight, and the second flight delayed 3 hours because of mechanical troubles. But we did make it, and only missed the first movie. However, I slept through quite a few, or at least only saw the first part of several movies.
Miscellaneous
I get to go home tomorrow after work! woohoo!! I need to do some cleaning so we can have a piano tuner out. The piano is going to need more than tuning... the sustain pedal has broken (a piece of metal snapped) and several keys stick like crazy.
I'm also going to help Daniel with his resume. We'd planned to do this anyway, but today he found out that it's also going to be an assignment in one of his classes. Kill two birds with one stone. He needs to start looking for a construction job for summer that might give him some experience in the management area, since that's his major.
And lastly for the weekend, I plan to get some long-overdue time at the torch. There are a couple of ideas I want to work on for beads with specific jewelry in mind. I've also got a few new rod colors to play with.
I leave you with a picture of an amarylis that bloomed beautifully on my windowsill after the holidays.
