Shiner

Sunday was the family holiday gathering at Mom and Dad's place. We really had a great time visiting, and of course there was food and more food and some gifties as well. And then more food. Mom fixed pulled pork, and we had potato salad, baked beans, salad, corn on da cob, and of course pickles and fingie-foods. Let's not forget dessert! And the whole weekend was good with Anna visiting too.

Will came over after he finished work on Monday and replaced the strings on my mandolin. I was supposed to be watching and learning, and I think I could do it, but it was nice to have him over. I paid him back with dinner at Red Lobster.

Today was colonoscopy day. Since there's a family history of colon cancer, it was a good idea to get things checked out even though I'm only 48. I think the normal first time is at 50. So yesterday was prep day, clear liquids, some pills at 4, then start drinking some funky stuff at 8 (every 10 minutes for about 1 1/2 hours...). Without being too gross, things get fairly explosive. The box says 'may experience some cramping.' Holy crap (yes, crap!), a better warning would have been nice! Major cramps was more accurate, passing out possible. I was sitting there thinking 'I should get on the floor,' and remember putting my hands down to *gently* lower myself, then waking up with a major pain on my eyebrow and a small chip of tooth floating around on my tongue... I must have hit the corner of the door as I passed out. The lump wasn't so bad looking last night, but this morning... oh my...

Lovely, no?

Today, the nurse was starting an IV and noticed a bruise and scrape on my elbow too. Then they blew 3 veins trying to get the IV started. Who knew a simple procedure like a colonoscopy would give me so many battle scars!? Anyway, everything is fine, no need to have another for 5 years. Yay!
