Listen and regret it
Overheard in Denny's, Saturday morning, breakfasting with the manchild:
Father, son and daughter sitting at table behind me
Father to son Shut UP. Can't you keep your mouth shut!? It's none of your business. Quit looking at her! You act like a 10 year old! (the boy looks about 8).
We can't hear anything the boy is saying. Dad is waiting on daughter hand and foot, cutting pancakes, serving her orange juice, pampering and doting.
Father to son I gave up my carEER for you! Do you think I wanted to come down here, all the way from Wisconsin and listen to you behave like this?
Silence from boy.
Father to son I heard you called your mother this morning. That was nice of you. Too bad you can't ever call me. I always have to call you, every single day. Can't you pick up the phone and call me? Even if I'm not there you can leave a message, just like you did your mother. See if I call you again! How will that be? You'll be sorry then, won't you.
Silence from boy.
Finally they leave. I'm aghast. My kid's eyes are bugging out. I feel for that poor child, and I wonder what kind of issues he is going to have when he gets older. Hopefully his mother is a much better soul.
Things finished and started
This last week has been great for working on projects. Quiet evenings, taking advantage of lunch breaks, and knitting over the weekend.
First up, a baby quilt that had been pieced, machine quilted except for the borders, then folded and left. I pulled it out, did machine stippling in the borders, bound and completed. It's bold and bright. A second quilt top in the same fabrics (different pattern) is waiting for batting and backing.
Next is the Barn-Raising afghan made from leftover sock yarn. Most of the squares are from socks that I made, but there are a few leftovers from a couple gals at knit group. I put it together with red crochet, then did a simple crochet edging. I think it looks great!
Nearly finished is the second cotton toddler dress. All that is lacking is the edging around the neck and armholes. It will really be nice to get these out of the To Do basket.
And started, a shawl of some Auracania cotton in a deep magenta. The yarn was bought at a major discount from Tuesday Morning. I would never had guessed they'd have yarn, but it was a discontinued batch that I just happened to luck upon.
Time to order Chinese delivery...
