This was an on-call weekend, so I was at the apartment. Saturday I headed to the Ferguson Farmers Market, and got a little lost because it had moved down a block and across the street from the last time I'd gone. Good grief, everything was way too expensive. 75 cents an ear for corn. I'm hoping there's still some left at the farm this next weekend! I did buy a couple pounds of small onions from an organic local farm. The big honkin' ones in the grocery store tend to go to waste before I can use a whole one, even though the remainders get stored in a jar in the fridge.
Two good projects completed in the last few days. First is a Feather and Fan scarf from Regia plus cotton, a wool and cotton blend sock weight. The color is a varied stripe effect in natural and blues, and will go well with bluejeans, even while it's warmer. This was stash yarn... yay!
Second project is 75 child sized masks for Alyssa's school. It's a small satellite school with only grades K-2. While all of the sewing is finished, they still need ear loops run through the side casings. I tried a couple different methods, and have settled on a light cotton t-shirt jersey cut in strips and tugged at the ends to make them curl into a tube. After slipping through the casing, a plastic pony bead will be strung onto both ends, the ends knotted, and the loops will be adjustable. Strips have been cut, and I will take them to the farm this weekend and let Alyssa help me with that.
The next item on my list is a UFO from a couple of years ago. It's a fairly wide shawl knit from a bulky weight wool and rayon bamboo in uhh... more blue variegated! It's a simple design, just one pattern row with a purl on the wrong side. Originally it was intended to go with me to work to combat the freezing year-round AC. Yes, even in summer, my fingers and legs would get so cold, turn blotchy and a little blue! Since picking it up again, progress has been pretty quick. So far I've used 3 skeins, and intend to use part of a fourth then maybe add fringe? We'll see when I get to that point.
The weather has been just beautiful the last couple of days. Well ok, it rained a bit yesterday, but cooled down quite a bit. I slept with the windows open!! Today was sunny, a breeze, and maybe got to 75 for the high. Tonight will be another open window night - projected 57 for a low. The fresh air sure helps me sleep better, though I do wish the owner of the car that has the alarm going off frequently would GET IT FIXED!
