Listening to: Furnace running and running and running and…
Woke up to 7F. This old body did not want to move from the bed, but up and at’em! Coffee, some biscuits and gravy, and things to work on.
Family
Somewhere I picked up a stomach bug, and woke early Saturday morning to the heaves. Slept till nearly 3, then moved to the couch for more snoozing. Sunday morning I felt so much better. We had some snow but the ground was warm enough that it turned to slush and got cleared off the roads pretty quickly. We went down to Chaffee to see Mom. She was just getting ready to have lunch, so we stayed until the dining room opened and wheeled her down. She was alert, but responded like she was happy to have company, but just who are these people?
I got to watch the girls Monday - they were off school for Presidents Day. We stopped at Jackson Donuts and stocked up. Then we headed to the farm. Alyssa slept and read most of the morning. I taught Cara how to make a friendship bracelet using a plastic lid as a makeshift kumihimo loom. She finished that up, and by then Alyssa wanted to make one. Got her started, then helped Cara make a pillow with a piece she had embroidered for Alyssa.
Projects
I have been trying to tidy up the sewing room, but keep running into projects that I would really like to finish. Some haven’t even been started, but are small enough that I tell myself I might as well DO them, and then won’t have to find someplace to stash them. And so it happened, I came across a small ball of hand dyed wool from a shop that no longer exists. It had come with a small silk scarf dyed the same. Keep thinking it was during the Pussy Hat era. Very little yarn, not enough for a scarf, and I didn’t fancy a pink hat. So I started a cowl. Got a ways along and decided there just wasn’t enough yarn to make it the size I would wear. Rip it out (probably 4th time already), and start yet again. A simple ribbed cowl that I could just keep going until I ran out with just enough to bind off. Took maybe 3 hours, and I am very pleased with it. This is me being Flexible. I haven’t forgotten my word for the year!
Next up, yarn from Wisconsin. It’s a worsted weight from Crazy Valley Farmers. It started out as the Irish Rover Pullover, but the pattern is poorly written, and the math doesn’t work out. I checked other sizes, and no luck. It’s just laziness especially for a pricy pattern. Second try was Hush from Tin Can Knits. Well written, and I already owned it, but the yarn and the design just didn’t mesh well. Pulled it out yet again. Third time is a charm maybe? This time I am using Willow Branch, a top down pullover with a simple heavy lace in the yoke. So far, I am liking this. Just hope there is enough yardage. Nothing like playing yarn chicken!
